Windows Live writer - a non review…
June 24, 2008 by Morninglark
So I am creating this in BlogJet because after several attempts to download Windows live writer today, using the “Windows Live Installer.exe” – I gave up.
I finally went and downloaded the Windows Live beta version directly from one of the miriad of Microsoft sites. Honestly it’s like the blob…trying to find files on thier site. You would think that the world’s leader of software would have more user friendly sites..but that is a blog for another day…
So anyway…I finally install the beta version of the Live Writer. I created my account, was able to successfully create a link with my current blog site.
I then asked it to list the catagories from my site, and the program crapped out. (with the usual..would you like to send a report to microsoft hahaha)
What on earth do they do with all those reports? I mean really.
Every user on the planet sending even one report a day… How much disk storage would that take. How much bandwidth does that waste..because I am pretty sure they don’t actually do anything with them. If they did, the same bugs would not have existed for years. I think its a ploy to just make us feel better as users. “Oh look, I will send them a report..then the mighty Microsoft will fix it”
Anyway, the Windows Live installer is having some issues. It took two hours to install the Windows Live mail. It took 3 hours to almost install the Live Writer. Finally it told me on the help page it was because I am out of disk space.
(only I have 298 GB free) Either they are very messed up, or that is the most exciting blog editor imaginable! It must do everything short of building a house for you.
Once I downloaded the beta one directly, I searched for a way to install the other version without using the Windows Live installer. (which I think is causing the issues) I could not find a direct download link on the site.
It is probably there..somewhere..in the ether…with all the reports we all send about software that crashes.
