They Call This REALITY TV…

July 21, 2008 by Lark · Leave a Comment

The reality is, that the circus has always had ‘freak-shows’. This is nothing new. (pssst. Don’t tell Hollywood!)

  • In the 1600’s there was a set of siamese twins that toured all of Europe making money.

  • In the 1700’s, at what is now, one of the finest Museums in Russia, they housed all kinds of rare human oddities.

  • And in the 1800’s P.T. Barnum exhibited “Tom Thumb”, a man who suffered from dwarfism.

  • From the mid 1800’s until the second world war, these kinds of shows were very popular in America. There were traveling shows that exhibited deformed animals, humans and otherwise unexplained items.

  • Coney Island, has a ‘freak-show’ to this day.

If you are interested in more history of mans fascination with freakishness, here is a great site I found, called Sideshow World.

Over the years, these types of shows and establishments fell out of favor. Our information age, has made these folks less of a curiosity. Medical Science has advanced both the treatment and ‘thinking’ of all of us…

But now what? Humans seem to need to satisfy this curiosity for the odd-ball.

I don’t know if watching it, makes each of us feel more normal..or what? I was browsing some video’s on Youtube today, and found these two. Has Reality TV become our modern day freak show?

Check out these two video’s. Watch the faces of the crowd. We haven’t changed in 400 years.

Strange things for sale on Ebay

Sometimes its just fun to look for weird stuff..

For example, this week you can buy:

The Secret of Invisibility says it’s an amazing book that renders you completely invisible. It goes on to claim, that it’s used by the CIA and makes you completely invisible. (and for only $24.95 haha) You have to actually click on the product and read the funny stuff he claims.

Do People actually buy this stuff?? Um..yeah they must. He has been selling it for several years and has hundreds of positive feedback comments. (Go figure)

(when you click on this link you get the sellers page..scroll down to see what they list. If I chose to link to an actual sale item, then it would expire and I would have broken links!)

Next auction you just can’t pass up today… SAND…yeah that’s right…

a pile of sand

This isn’t magic sand, or invisible sand…oh hell no. This person is gonna go outside, pack up some dirt from her beach and ship it to you..and wants you to pay for it. Um..its DIRT lady..are you kidding me???

(to see this auction, click on items for sale, then click on “Everything Else”)

Then there is a guy that actually has an ebay store, and sells weird stuffed insects and stuff.

(not cute ’stuffed animals’ from the toy store..nope..STUFFED real animals)

a stuffed piranha

This is a stuffed Piranha captured in Peru (according to the ebay listing)

He also sells preserved leeches, skulls, bats. Well what can I say..

If you just can’t live without a stuffed snake…go see this guy!

Or go see a shrink…your choice!

If you see more unusual ebay postings..share them in comments!

Clueless employee… an example

July 15, 2008 by Morninglark · Leave a Comment

Many times we hear stories about clueless people….

This video has at least five of them!

I often come home, and whine about the idiot bank teller, or the guy in the drive through that could not get my order right.

I wish I had a dollar for every time I have said, “What is it he doesn’t understand about extra cream, no sugar?” (when I have gotten home with a coffee that had extra sugar and no cream.)

Well this video, is a prime example of a clueless employee. What is wrong with this guy? And worse, what is wrong with the employer that continues to pay him??? Watch the parents. They are just as clueless as the kid. (wonder what is in the water in that town..) Anyway, the video is funny. Watch and see how many clue-less actions you can find.

Did you see the employee? He walks over, sees the little girl stuck in the machine and starts to wash the window!!! Does he go over to see if she is ok? Does he call his boss? Does he call the fire department? Hell no… he tosses his cloth in the air, and continues washing the door.

Then you have the idiot mother and father. They leave the store..just walk right out the door, without their kid at first.

“Duh, gee honey, are we forgetting something?” Then they come back in, and proceed to try to get her out of the machine.

I don’t really know much about those machines and how they work, but isn’t there a way they could have opened the machine to get her out?

Where have all the statesmen gone?

A politician looks forward only to the next election. A statesman looks forward to the next generation.

-Thomas Jefferson

statesman

I don’t intend to get into political debates between Republican/Democrat, or Conservative/Liberal here.

Depending on the topic, people could label me any of the above or even moderate and libertarian at times. In other words…I AM NOT A LABEL. I am a person. Read more

Pope Benedict - You just gotta love him.

I was heartbroken when Pope John Paul died. Like many catholics, I was apprehensive about our new pope.

After his visit to the United States, I was suddenly in love with him. Watching him interact with people, I could just feel his concern and genuine warmth. Read more
